Watch Your Words, Speak Life!

Years ago, my dad was asked not to come over to his 1st wife’s hometown to lay one of her late parents to rest until certain conditions were met, he refused and went ahead to his hometown and when he got there, my mum narrated the story to me that he was ‘puff up’ and was making

utterances that were offensive to those people, they all kept quiet. They allowed him to do everything he needed to do. The list they had given him, he disregarded them (changing the roof of the dilapidated house amongst other things ). He returned back to Lagos and became so ill

that he was driven to our church hospital and then to Akowonjo Egbeda.
Medical Operation was carried out and it was successful and we were immediately looking forward to his return in the coming days but suddenly! he couldn’t speak 😭.
He had to ask for paper and pen to communicate

with my mum because she was his primary caregiver and others that came to visit as well. He passed on at night in a very dramatic way.

my mum reminisced
on what must have gone wrong….she realized his health started degenerating when he returned back from his hometown

Even though we are Christians but we didn’t understand and weren’t walking in the knowledge of Christ because we were attending more of a ‘religious centre’ at the time. my dad thought it was good enough to serve and pay tithes and be an elder in the church and also build churches

and also support other church projects. These things are good but you can still be a victim to the enemy.

Where exactly am I going 😇
He could have told them with kind words he doesn’t have such funds or validated their request especially when this request doesn’t cross the

line in the area of his beliefs instead it’s more of finance which he was more than capable to handle.

I travelled to Jos a few days ago and when the plane landed, I immediately switched on my mobile phone at the gate area and I read a message sent to me by someone and I couldn’t

help myself, tears were rolling down my eyes, the words – so heavy!
By the way, the person that sent me such a message is not a believer so I had to pray for him in my heart after my emotional serere🤗.

Regardless of our beliefs, we have a great responsibility to weigh our

words and tone in which we communicate with careful consideration.

The word of God is so perfect that nothing is missing from it.

These scriptures will help us see the importance of our words and help the way we speak and the words we use with others.
Also, the way we choose our

words whether via text message, social media, email, telephone or physical.

Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones

Proverbs 11:9

Proverbs 15:4 “Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”

Proverbs 18:4 “A person’s words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook.”

Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Luke 6:43-45

Proverbs 25:18 “Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow.

Matthew 12:37
For by your words, you will be justified, and by your words, you will be condemned.

Proverbs 12:18
There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword,
But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 10:19
When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable,
But he who restrains his lips is wise.

Ecclesiastes 6:11

Proverbs 18:7
A fool’s mouth is his ruin,
And his lips are the snare of his soul

James 3:6
Matthew 15:35-37

Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

Proverbs 21:23 “Whosoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”

James 3:5

James 1:26 “If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.”

Proverbs 17:18

Titus 3:2 “To speak evil of no one, to avoid quarrelling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy to all people.”

Ephe 4:29“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Finally,
Ladies & gentlemen, the scripture says
“By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made,
And by the breath of His mouth all their host”. Man, light, nature etc came to bear by words, what does your comment do to others? Do you tear another being down with your words, or

you raise them up with your words?
Do U build with your words or destroy?
Do U make people shed tears or laugh with your words? Nations have gone to war and many died on the battlefield because of careless words. Marriages have experience storms because of words as well.

Children battle self-esteem because of words spoken by loose-tongue teachers, parents or even their peers at school.
